The Dale Velzy Surf Classic is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, an event that pays tribute to one of the most extravagant surfer legends around. The Doheny Longboard Surfing Association puts on the event, based on the best tides, swell predictions and the luck of the draw. The event this year takes place on Sept. 26, at Doheny State Beach. It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of legendary Waikiki Beachboy and standup paddle surfing pioneer Robert "Bobby" John Ah Choy. Ah Choy, 66, passed away on Monday, May 21, 07. little more than a month ago Ah Choy steered an escort canoe of Beachboy legends out at Waikiki for a tribute and scattering of ashes of Don Ho.
